As Replication City in our project, the Municipality of Ioannina is implementing targeted actions to promote sustainable urban mobility, with a strong focus on raising awareness among the younger generation.

Students of the 6th grade at the 3rd Primary School of Ioannina “Maroutseio” participated in the first pilot workshop titled “Climate Change and Sustainable Mobility,” held in collaboration with Mr. Georgios Stylos, Laboratory Teaching Staff at the Department of Primary Education, University of Ioannina.

During the workshop, students reflected on and mapped their current daily routes to school. Through experiential and interactive activities, they were introduced to key concepts of sustainable mobility. By the end of the session, they redesigned their personal “school routes” based on environmentally friendly and responsible mobility choices.

This activity is part of a pilot initiative under the project’s Local Dissemination Strategy and is expected to be extended to more schools in the city.

Deputy Mayor of Ioannina, Mr. Thomás Giotitsas, actively supports the implementation of such actions—not only within the scope of his responsibilities but also driven by his personal belief in the value of experiential learning. As he highlights, “Today’s students are tomorrow’s citizens, and we have a duty to offer them experiences that foster ecological awareness and a sense of responsibility.”
