Cycling and Celebrating Active Mobility through the “Mobilities for EU” Project

On the occasion of World Bicycle Day, the students of the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades of the 3rd Primary School of Ioannina “Maroutseio” took part in a joyful and well-organised School Bike Ride, sending a clear message about the importance of sustainable mobility, health, and environmental responsibility.

This action is part of a broader commitment by the school to encourage active, safe, and eco-friendly commuting, and was implemented with the support of the MOBILITIES FOR EU.

The goal of the event was not only to celebrate cycling but to:

  • Raise awareness among students about the impact of daily mobility choices,
  • Promote cycling as a healthy, low-emission, and accessible means of transport,
  • Encourage a culture of safety, respect, and environmental responsibility.

As one of MOBILITIES FOR EU’s five replication cities, Ioannina is supported with opportunities to implement transport actions that foster active citizenshipclimate consciousness, and healthier transport habits from an early age.

The bike ride was both a celebration and educational experience aligned with the project’s goals to promote climate neutral and safer transport culture in European cities. It empowered students to see themselves as part of the solution to urban and environmental challenges.

The event was a collective effort featuring officials from the City of Ioannina, the Hellenic Red Cross and the Volunteer Samaritans, The Cycling Athletic Club of Ioannina – P&I, teachers and parents.
