In July, a Japanese delegation visited Madrid to explore its open and interoperable smart city approach, hosted by IoTMADLAB. Representatives from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Mitsubishi Research Institute, and others engaged in knowledge exchange on urban innovation and digital transformation.

Key highlights included a visit to the Valdemingómez Technological Park and presentations on Madrid’s real-time city framework, standardisation efforts, and collaboration across public, private, and academic sectors.

Demonstrators from the MOBILITIES FOR EU project were also showcased—featuring connected autonomous vehicles, 5G corridors, and urban data spaces deployed at Mercamadrid’s Smart Urban Space.

The visit sparked interest in future collaboration between Japan and IoTMADLAB to advance interoperable urban ecosystems.
