At Madrid Public Transport Company (Empresa Municipal de Transportes de Madrid, EMT Madrid), we believe that the future of urban mobility must be clean, connected, and citizen-focused. Through the MOBILITIES for EU project, we are accelerating our journey toward zero-emission public transport by transforming two of our key bus depots into flagship sites for sustainable innovation.

  • In Carabanchel, one of our largest operational centers, we are undertaking a full electrification process. This means adapting the infrastructure to support a growing fleet of electric buses, optimising energy management, and ensuring that our operations remain efficient and resilient. This transformation is not just technical—it’s a strategic shift that reflects our commitment to climate-neutral mobility.
  • Meanwhile, at our Entrevías depot, we have deployed Madrid’s first green hydrogen refueling station for public transport. This pioneering facility will enable us to integrate hydrogen-powered buses into our fleet, offering a complementary solution to battery-electric vehicles and reinforcing our role as a leader in clean energy adoption.

MOBILITIES for EU is helping us turn these ambitions into reality. The project provides a collaborative framework where cities and mobility providers share knowledge, test solutions, and learn from each other. For EMT Madrid, it’s also an opportunity to showcase our experience in managing complex urban mobility systems and to contribute to the European dialogue on sustainable transport.

Beyond the technical milestones, what makes this journey meaningful is the dedication of our team. Engineers, planners, drivers, and technicians are working together to make these changes happen—always with the citizens of Madrid in mind.
