At this year’s Smart City Expo World Congress, MOBILITIES FOR EU took centre stage as part of the CIVITAS New Mobility Services cluster, contributing its expertise to the session “Co-Creating Inclusive Cities: Advancing Societal Readiness in Urban Mobility.” Held on 6 November during the Smart City Expo World Congress 2025, the session gathered representatives from four CIVITAS New Mobility Services (NMS) cluster projects — MOBILITIES FOR EU, SUM, GEMINI, and metaCCAZE, to explore how cities can make innovation in mobility more inclusive, trusted, and ready for large-scale implementation. Moderated by Andreas Piller from ICLEI and CIVITAS, the discussion focused on practical approaches to co-creation and governance that help cities align diverse stakeholders and integrate citizen feedback into the design of new mobility services. 

Representing the MOBILITIES for EU project, Eva Boo from We Right Click highlighted the role of Urban Mobility Labs as open innovation ecosystems where cities prototype and test autonomous and electric mobility and logistics solutions in real-life environments. She explained how setting up such labs, by defining a shared vision, governance structure, and co-creation roadmap, enables effective engagement with citizens, industry, and academia. The session also featured presentations from the other NMS projects, which showcased best practices from cities including Munich, Larnaca, and Copenhagen, illustrating how diverse co-creation approaches are helping local authorities build trust, foster social acceptance, and prepare for large-scale deployment of new mobility services.
