Last week, MOBILITIES FOR EU took part in “Solutions for Better Design, Evaluation, and Monitoring of New Mobility Services” hosted by the SUM Project during the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. This collaborative event, also featuring New Mobility Services projects metaCCAZE and GEMINI, focused on exploring innovative solutions for the future of urban mobility.
The session gathered experts from all four projects, united by a common goal: to advance urban mobility through cutting-edge approaches that prioritise collaborative creation, forward-thinking design, rigorous evaluation, and effective impact tracking of new mobility services. Specialists in urban planning, transport, and sustainable development shared insights, ideas, and best practices aimed at reshaping the way cities approach mobility.
MOBILITIES FOR EU project partners contributed valuable insights, including Charlotte Sprengel from Landeshauptstadt Dresden, Cristina Juarez Batlle from CARNET, Cynthia Karaki from We Right Click, and Regine Wehner from Steinbeis Europa Zentrum. These organisations played an instrumental role in discussions that emphasised the critical importance of collaboration in achieving smart, green urban environments. Through their shared expertise, they addressed pressing mobility challenges and examined how collective efforts can enhance the quality of urban life and reduce environmental impact.
According to Regine Wehner, who moderated the third session – Methodologies and tools to assess the Impact (social embracement) of NMS, “Bringing all four projects together for discussions on the methodologies and tools used to measure the impact of the new mobility services was an excellent idea! We are all still starting, so the debates were more focused on the stage prior to the implementation of the NMS. A very important stage, since it serves as the foundations for all assessments and activities that follow.”
As a result, the session underscored a common theme: working together is essential to driving the transformation of cities into more sustainable, eco-friendly spaces. The insights and strategies shared throughout the event will serve as a foundation for ongoing and future initiatives aimed at creating smarter, more resilient cities across Europe.
MOBILITIES FOR EU and its partners extend their gratitude to all participants who contributed to this meaningful exchange. The event marks a significant step forward in the pursuit of sustainable urban mobility, paving the way for more innovative solutions that will support cities in evolving towards a greener future.
