On July 11 and 12, Mercamadrid hosted two intensive days of workshops focused on the pilots to be deployed in Madrid to achieve more sustainable urban mobility as part of the European project MOBILITIES FOR EU. This event brought together top professionals and experts from all project partners to discuss and analyse a range of possibilities for enhancing urban transport.

Key topics included electric mobility, connectivity, autonomous vehicle opportunities, and the application of digitalisation and IoT. Mercamadrid will serve as a real-world laboratory for testing technical solutions and business models, aiming to replicate successful outcomes in other cities. With an average of 15,000 vehicles and 20,000 people converging daily in this logistics hub, it is an ideal space to explore present and future mobility opportunities.

In the MOBILITIES FOR EU project, Madrid and Dresden are leading the development of 11 pilots with 27 innovative mobility solutions. These initiatives, integrated into Urban Mobility Labs (UM-Labs), leverage IoT, 5G technologies, data spaces, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy solutions to enhance sustainable urban mobility. Madrid’s commitment to climate neutrality and sustainable development positions it as a model city for the future of urban mobility.

The MOBILITIES FOR EU project continues to make significant progress. It was a pleasure to welcome all participants to this important event.
