On Wednesday, 7 May 2025, our Lead City Dresden was awarded the EU Cities Mission Label during the third EU Cities Mission Conference in Vilnius. This recognition by the European Commission acknowledges the city’s ongoing commitment to becoming a climate-friendly, sustainable, and future-oriented urban centre.

As one of currently 112 European model cities, Dresden is already implementing concrete, project-based innovative measures, particularly at the district level. These include the development of clean energy districts through the intelligent integration of heating networks, heat pumps, and building refurbishments; new mobility solutions employing cutting-edge technologies such as flexible charging options via charging robots, automated connected driving, and traffic optimisation and control through a 5G communication network; as well as innovative participatory formats in municipal heat planning. With the Integrated Energy and Climate Protection Concept (IEK) currently under consultation, ongoing municipal heat planning, and the advancement of the Dresden Mobility Plan 2035+, the city is laying key strategic foundations for a sustainable future.

“Receiving the Mission Label solidifies Dresden’s position as an innovative and forward-thinking city while simultaneously strengthening collaboration with innovation partners—both locally and across Europe.”
Dirk Hilbert, Lord Mayor of the City of Dresden
