On Friday, September 20, 2024, the street in front of Na Dolinách Elementary School in Trenčín became a vibrant play zone dedicated to children. This temporary transformation created a safe, engaging space for students to play, move, and explore educational activities within a car-free environment. The initiative is part of an ongoing effort to make school commutes safer, more environmentally sustainable, and enjoyable, supporting Trenčín’s commitment to child-friendly urban spaces.

This effort will gradually expand to all schools in Trenčín, inviting collaboration from students, teachers, parents, local and regional authorities, police, transport providers, and mobility experts. School mobility plans will be developed with guidance from the SPECTRA Center of Excellence at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. The centre will lead data collection and analysis, designing targeted proposals for traffic calming, safety improvements, and climate-efficient measures that will shape future investment projects.

As a Replication City in the MOBILITIES FOR EU project, Trenčín is dedicated to adopting and implementing proven sustainable mobility solutions from other pioneering cities. By championing cleaner, safer transportation options and advancing innovative urban mobility, Trenčín aims to transform its streets into welcoming, sustainable spaces for residents and visitors alike.
