As part of MOBILITIES FOR EU, students from universities across the Tri-City region of Gdańsk recently took part in an inspiring study visit to the Gdańsk Road and Greenery Authority (Gdański Zarząd Dróg). The visit provided a unique opportunity to bridge academic knowledge with real-world urban mobility practice.
The group, comprising young architects, urban planners, transport specialists and economists, participated in interdisciplinary project workshops and engaged directly with experts from the city’s Traffic Control Department. During the visit, participants attended a presentation by department head Mateusz Władyka, who introduced them to the operational and strategic aspects of traffic management in Gdańsk.
The session offered valuable insights into how modern cities manage traffic flows, implement intelligent transport systems, and respond to the growing complexity of urban mobility. Students gained first-hand understanding of how data-driven decision-making and coordinated infrastructure planning contribute to safer, more efficient and more sustainable urban environments.
Beyond the technical knowledge shared, the visit highlighted the importance of collaboration between academia and city authorities. By connecting students with practitioners, MOBILITIES FOR EU fosters the next generation of mobility experts while supporting cities in developing innovative, people-centred transport solutions.
This exchange exemplifies the project’s commitment to co-creation, interdisciplinary learning and real-life experimentation, key elements in shaping the future of urban mobility across Europe.
